Quail and I are back from Puerto Rico and definitely not ready to be back in the cold. But it’s Halloween week, which makes it all much better. This is my favorite time of year, and I’m happy to see that the leaves are finally starting to change colors.
You probably already know about all the NYC Halloween parades and the bigger celebrations, so I’ll include some events for the week of October 25-31 that you might not know about yet.
(Note: Though I receive most of these as press info, I don’t get anything from sharing these events.) Enjoy!
Cool Things Happening In NYC, October 25-31
Free Interactive Arts Day at Lincoln Center (Oct 26)

Lincoln Center is opening its doors to families for its forth annual Open House. At this free event, all visitors are invited to simply walk in and enjoy live performances, hands-on workshops, and many ways to interact with art and music. There will be circus acts, puppets shows, and tons more fun for the whole family. A full schedule can be found here.
City of Gods Halloween Festival (Oct 24-26)

I know that you know about all the cool Halloween events and parties. But I just had to share one of my favorites. The legendary House of Yes is bringing the City of Gods Halloween Festival to Industry City this coming weekend. Tickets are on the pricier side, but the event will run from 9 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. on Sunday. This two-day music and art festival is a fun and trippy feast for the senses, inspired by Burning Man. Find tickets and info here.
Pumpkin Point (Oct 25-26)

Pumpkin Point is back at Governors Island, which is really all the excuse you need to hop over to the island. The pumpkins are mostly for the kids, but it’s also a lovely chance to walk around and enjoy a car-free, digital-device-free day in nature. Grab a pumpkins (they’re free but donations are highly encouraged), go trick or treating, then relax at a hammock or explore the hills and museums of the island. More info found here.
Vampire in Brooklyn Screening (Oct 30)

Catch an interactive screening of Wes Craven’s Vampire in Brooklyn at the legendary Apollo Theater. This event is presented by Melanin Madness and includes contests, prizes, props, and general shenanigans. Tickets are $25 per person. More details available here.
Dog Parades Around the City
There are plenty of cool costume parades around Halloween, and I won’t list those. Instead, I’ll list all the places (as far as I know) where you can see dogs parading around in costumes! The most famous one at Thompkins Square already passed (sorry I missed it!) but there are still more chances to see costumed pups strut their stuff:
- Washington Square Park Dog Halloween – A classic parade around the park. (Oct 25. More info.)
- Treat Street – A pup-friendly trick or treating event with puppy photo ops and plenty of treats. (Oct. 23-25. More info.)
- Halloween Harvest Festival – Held yearly at the Socrates Sculpture Park, plenty of dogs in creative costumes show up every year for a chance to win the Halloween dog costume contest. (Oct. 25. More info.)
