Quail Trails

As we travel around Japan, we keep using conbini to fuel up. Our go-to on-the-go meal is a tuna mayo onigiri. As a result we’ve accidentally sampled one from each of the major convenience store brands around here: Lawson, 711, and Family Mart. No one asked for this but in case anyone’s wondering, here’s my ranking of each tuna mayo rice ball:

3 – 711. The tuna is sparse and the nori is kind of chewy. It tastes like what I make at home, which isn’t a compliment.

2 – Family Mart. Solid onigiri with less mayo than usual and a nori that doesn’t flake away on opening.

1 – Lawson. By far the most mayo but also the modt delicious tuna with a flaky, crispy nori. Quail prefers the Family Mart one because his fell apart when he opened it. But this is my list, so Lawson’s tuna mayo onigiri tops them all!
